MDUK has two opportunities out to tender.

Skills Needs Survey (managed by SHARE Museums East).

SHARE Museums East has been granted £11,000 by Arts Council England to manage the Skills Needs
Survey project on behalf of the Museum Development England.

SHARE Museums East is seeking a supplier, or suppliers, to support the implementation and analysis of the new Museum Development Skills Needs Survey.  MD England will collect data on organisational skills and development needs from museums in each of the nine English regions.

The intention is to launch the reviewed survey in Summer 2021 with the results analysed and reports written by early autumn 2021.

Volunteer Development Programme (managed by Museum Development NW)

This project has arisen due to the dual challenges of a longer-term shifting volunteering workforce in the heritage sector, and the particular strains of the last 12 months due to the pandemic. Through the Museum Development England Annual Museums Survey results and the results of the Spotlight survey in Wales, a clear need has emerged to support organisations to review their operating models to ensure volunteering is sustainable and responsive to the museums needs and the communities they serve. This challenge is particularly acute in smaller museums, those without a dedicated volunteer management post and those with no paid staff.
