During Covid-19, MDUK is working with colleagues and partners to support the museum sector. In particular, we are following the government’s guidance plus advice from our funders and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

The MDUK committee continues to meet on a quarterly basis. In addition, England leads are meeting virtually twice monthly with Arts Council England to share regional news and intelligence, identify museums and collections at risk, discuss emergency funding packages and local responses to the Coronavirus crisis,

In June 2020, MDUK and AIM jointly published re-opening guidance for museums. This is a companion piece and should be read alongside the reopening guidance published by the National Museum Directors Conference. Both publications are available on our Learning and Resources page.

In a new and innovative partnership, The Art Fund contributed £280,000 to Museum Development UK to support Recovery Grants. Launched in July 2020, 156 museums across all nations of the UK benefitted from these Recovery Grants. Further information about what was funded and which museums benefitted is available here.

We are also discussing recovery support, advice and guidance with other Sector Support Organisations – all of which is being disseminated to the sector as it becomes available.

National communication is being disseminated to MDUK providers on a weekly basis and resources for the sector are regularly updated via our blog.
